Geostatistics

Geostatistics is a class of statistics used to analyze and predict the values associated with spatial or spatiotemporal phenomena. It incorporates the spatial (and in some cases temporal) coordinates of the data within the analyses. Many geostatistical tools were originally developed as a practical means to describe spatial patterns and interpolate values for locations where samples were not taken.

My work focuses on the use of geostatistics in the creation of heat flow maps in order to proide a tool for geothermal resources exploration, estimation, and description.

This project seeks to perform such spatiotemporal analysis of Landsat 4-5 TM data made available from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) for the Greater Grand Forks Area in order to better demonstrate the increase in urbanization taking place in one of North Dakota’s largest population centers.

Geostatistical Analysis of Bottom-Hole Temperatures and Heat Flow in the State of Texas, USA
This project seeks to perform such geostatistical analysis of data made available from the National Geothermal Database System (NGDS) for the State of Texas in order to better define the geothermal resources of a region.
